*(PILOT EPISODE/REVIEW)* Season 1: Review #1: LEGO City Undercover

Welcome to the first review of The Detective Librarian. Today, I’m reviewing “Grand Theft Auto”– I Mean, “LEGO City Undercover.” It was first released in March 18, 2013 in the US and came out on the Wii U and was Rated E+10 for Comic Mischef, Mild Cartoon Violence, and Crude Humor. The premise of the game is that police officer, Chase McCain, has returned to LEGO City after being sent away to Brick County for two years due to accidently revealing former reporter, Natalia Kowalski’s, identity during infamous criminal, Rex Fury’s, trial. Yes, I know what you’re thinking. Why a cop who was sent away for two years return to LEGO City? Well you’ll find out why. Mayor Gleeson, former chief of LEGO City Police Department and now mayor of LEGO City, is waiting for Chase after he roughly goes into port thanks to a boat driver named Bluffbeard with an explanation. Rex Fury has escaped from Albatross Prison Island and is in the city area. Also, a crime wave is occuring and Mayor Gleeson’s prime suspect is Rex Fury. She needs Chase’s help to stop all the chaos ASAP and go to the LCPD to prepare to stop Rex. Chase takes a police car to the police station and meets dimwitted cop, Chase’s biggest fan, and one of my favorite characters of the game, Frank Honey. Frank Honey is amazed about seeing Chase McCain after Chase made Rex’s arrest, even though Deputy Marion Dunby made the actual arrest who is now chief of the Police Department. Frank and Chase go inside and meet Ellie Phillips the head of the evidence locker, chief Marion Dunby, etc…. During the entire game, Chase goes through disguises like as a robber, fireman, and a astronaut to bring Rex to justice and starts to repair some rough patches he and Natalia have during their relationship. It is revealed that the real mastermind behind all of the crimes is the famous multi-billionare, Forrest Blackwell. It was all his idea so that Forrest could get revenge on LEGO City. Why? Forrest hates the wildlife due to a squirrel disturbing his park at Bluebell National Park. You know, that is kind of a dumb motive if you ask me. Anyways, Chase saves Natalia’s father, Professor Henrik Kowalski, who has gone missing without a trace in the entire game because Forrest Blackwell forced him to reveal the password for a device that reveals a UFO that allows them to escape Blackwell’s base. Our heroes arrive at Blackwell’s mansion to find out what he’s up to. In a surprise twist, Blackwell Tower that was created by Forrest Blackwell turns out to be a rocket heading straight towards the moon with Natalia who was kidnapped by Blackwell and his thugs. Chase calls Ellie and shows her the evidence to prove of what Blackwell Tower really is. All the citizens immediately evacuate the tower like magic as Chase places devices that create a magic bubble shield to prevent the rocket’s fire spreading across LEGO City and burning it to the ground. The rocket launches and Blackwell Tower catches on fire. HOORAY, SAFE AT LAST!!!!!!!!! But, the game isn’t over yet, Chase needs to stop Rex and Blackwell and save Natalia on the moon base. Chase goes to the space station known as Apollo Island to go to the moon and stop Blackwell. He arrives on the moon and sets the rocket Natalia’s on back to LEGO City and a confrontation ensues. Blackwell gives a speech about how his life has been before it changed forever and how his upcoming monument was nothing but an apartment block and a shopping mall. Blackwell’s men bring Natalia just as Rex Fury arrives with a T-Rex robot and we have one final battle. It becomes Team Cop VS. Team Crooks!!!!! Rex is defeated and Blackwell fires him just as the rocket is set to self-destruct and goes KA-BOOM!!! Luckily, Chase and Rex survive the explosion and battle each other one last time and we get to hear Blackwell discussing about what will happen when he destroys LEGO City and builds his empire. After this, Rex gets handcuffed and Blackwell is seen on the escape pod and vows to gets revenge on Chase, which hints a possible sequel in works. But, a cow randomly shows up and hits Blackwell’s escape pod. Blackwell gets pushed away, escapes, and is never seen again. While Chase goes through a very epic fall from space while epic music is playing in the background, Natalia tries to call him, but the radio gets cut off. The radio reveals that Natalia will crash in the ground in three minutes. Wow, talk about a cartoon – style giveaway. Chase goes through all the debris from the falling rocket and arrives at the space needle Natalia is at just in time as he pulls the brake lever and slowly makes it to the ground. LEGO City is finally saved and Chase is disappointed that both criminals got away. However, Dunby reveals that is turns out that the police arrested Rex ten minutes ago and crashed into a toilet at the same time. Then, we have a happy ending involving Natalia and Chase hugging each other and are officially a couple again. Awwwww….. Everyone laughs after Frank says “Yeah, you talking about video games right?” THE END. POST-GAME-FOLLOWUP This is a great LEGO game and without a doubt one of the best LEGO games Traveler’s Tales has made so far. It’s a different change of pace to have a Traveler’s Tales LEGO related game be single-player instead of being two-player. However, I’ve noticed that some of the characters are pretty dumb, but this is what makes the game very hilarious if you ask me. All in all, this game has a solid plot, memorable characters, nice graphics, good job of making comedy. I would highly recommend this game to LEGO fans of all ages. But guess what, there’s a prequel to this game that explains on how Chase first met Rex Fury that was released for the Nintendo 3DS a month and a half after the game was released. Anyways, I give this game a 8.5/10. I’m The Detective Librarian and remember, if it’s something worth recommending, it’s horrible in a bad plot. (Part of Nostalgia Critic reference)
